SMA Investigates Serious Oil Spill at Chilean Salmon Plant in National Reserve
Chile's Environmental Superintendency (SMA) initiated an investigation against the company Australis Mar for an oil spill at the Pan de Azúcar salmon fattening center (CES), located in Glacier Sound inside the Kawésqar National Reserve, Magallanes Region.
The alert was generated on Friday when the owner reported - through the SMA's Environmental Monitoring System - a fuel odor at the CES, whereupon company personnel identified a hydrocarbon leak from a vent in the Australis 33 pontoon.
