EU-Canada Fisheries Agreement Doubles Cod Quota for Portugal in NAFO Split
The Council of the European Union (EU) today approved a fisheries agreement with Canada that doubles Portugal's cod quota to 495 tons in a NAFO division, which will reopen in 2024 after 32 years of closure.
This division, 2J3KL, has been closed to catches for 32 years, following the collapse of cod stocks in Canadian and Newfoundland waters.
