UK: ‘Intervention Needed Over Eel Fishing Halt’
A Stormont department has been urged to intervene after it emerged a suspension on eel fishing on Lough Neagh over quality concerns has been extended for another month.
A temporary shutdown of commercial eel fishing came into force on May 12, just a week after the traditional fishing seasoned opened.
It had been hoped operations could resume today.
However, in a fresh blow, fishing has now been “further suspended” until mid-July, when another review will take place.
