Derelict Vessel Sinks at Orcas Island, Triggers Response from USCG, Ecology and IOSA
Crews at the US Coast Guard’s Sector Puget Sound command center were called November 18 when the 80-foot vessel El Capitan began sinking. The derelict vessel was tied to the dock at West Sound Marina on Oras Island, about 100 miles northwest of Seattle.
On that day Coast Guard Pollution Responders notified the Islands’ Oil Spill Association (IOSA), who responded to the scene and worked with the marina to deploy boom and absorbents.
