Louisiana Receives $58 Million In Federal Disaster Assistance For 2019 Flood
Louisiana’s fishing industry is finally receiving federal disaster assistance funding from the historic Mississippi and Atchafalaya flood in 2019. The state’s Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced this week that NOAA approved their application for approximately $58 million.
An analysis in 2019 determined that the Louisiana fishing industry suffered $258 million in losses as a result of the historic flooding, with the private oyster industry’s losses totalling $121 million alone.
