xpert Sea, Conservation International Launch ‘Climate Smart Shrimp’ Pilot in Ecuador
Conservation International and aquaculture tech firm xpertSea kicked off a ‘Climate Smart Shrimp’ pilot in Ecuador, which promotes lower-carbon farming practices and addresses mangrove deforestation.
A press release from xpertSea explained that over 50,000 hectares of mangroves in Ecuador had been destroyed since 1969, and 45% of the loss is attributed to the aquaculture industry, showing a need for habitat restoration in the region.
