An Explanation of the 2023 Quebec Snow Crab Price For Zone 16
The 2023 snow crab season out of Canada only just started. And even without grid closures thrown into the mix, things are already messy.
While most headlines seem to be focusing on the pricing challenges out of Newfoundland and Labrador, news broke earlier this week that a Superior Court in Quebec announced a provisionary price of $3.10 per pound for Zone 16 snow crab. The Fish, Food & Allied Workers (FFAW) immediately took issue with that figure as that was the same price offer that they had submitted to NL’s Standing Fish Price Setting Panel. The Panel ultimately chose the Association of Seafood Producers’ final offer of $2.20. But crab fishermen and Quebec processors are also at odds over the Zone 16 price.
