Wild Fish Conservancy Lawsuit May Shut Down 2023 Salmon Troll Season in Alaska
A 2020 lawsuit brought against NOAA Fisheries to invalidate a 2019 Biological Opinion could result in the shut down of Alaska’s 2023 salmon troll season. The lawsuit, won last year by the Washington-based Wild Fish Conservancy requires a rewrite of the BiOp, which provides Endangered Species Act coverage to all Southeast Alaska’s salmon fisheries. That it has been found inadequate may now result in no allowance for "incidental take" (IT) within the Endangered Species Act, essentially shutting down Alaska’s 2023 salmon troll season.
