U.S. and Canada Reach One-Year Accord on Pacific Halibut, Catch Limits Down 10% in 2023
The United States and Canada agreed last Friday to accept a 10.3% cut in annual catch limits for Pacific halibut, compared to 2022 catch limits. This year’s season opening will be March 10 with a closing date of December 7, 2023. The six Commissioners — three from Canada and three from the U.S. — announced the changes last Friday at the annual meeting of the International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC) in Victoria, B.C.
