NEFMC Executive Director to Retire After 25-Year Stint with Council
The New England Fishery Management Council (NEFMC) announced during its January meeting that Executive Director Thomas A. Nies will retire this summer and a nationwide search for his successor has begun.
Nies joined the Council in 1997 first working on the Atlantic Herring Fishery Management Plan, then jumping to lead analyst for groundfish. He spearheaded the Groundfish Plan Development Team (PDT), as he did the Herring PDT prior.
