NOAA Reports First NARW Death Of The Year, New Entangled Whale
NOAA reported the first North Atlantic Right Whale (NARW) death of the year last week. A male calf was documented as deceased near Morehead City, North Carolina, on January 7.
The calf had been spotted swimming close to shore around Beaufort Inlet, North Carolina on January 3. Surveillance of the calf found him to be “underweight and in relatively poor health.” And what was even more concerning was that the mother whale could not be located.
