Japan: Sumitomo Corporation Enters the Blue Carbon Business in Iwate Prefecture
Sumitomo Corporation, based in Tokyo, has entered the blue carbon business, which absorbs and stores carbon dioxide (CO2) in the ocean. On November 21, it received "J Blue Credit®" certification for 3,106.5 tons of CO2 from the Japan Blue Economy Association (JBE) in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture. The project will develop and conserve seaweed beds in Hirono Town, Iwate Prefecture.
