Environmental Groups Push NMFS to Halt U.S. Offshore Aquaculture Work
The Center for Food Safety and a number of conservation organizations have submitted comments to the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) that push back against proposed offshore aquaculture development in the Gulf of Mexico in designated Aquaculture Opportunity Areas (AOA).
"Despite its lack of authority from Congress, the Fisheries Service is taking yet another step to launch industrial fish farming in our federal ocean waters," said Meredith Stevenson, staff attorney at Center for Food Safety.
