Appointments Announced for 2022 Regional Fishery Management Councils
The U.S. Department of Commerce announced appointments for 20 new and returning members to the regional fishery management councils. These councils partner with NOAA Fisheries to manage marine fishery resources.
NOAA Fisheries explained that the councils were established by the Magnuson-Stevens Act, and are responsible for developing region-specific management plans. The councils consist of diverse groups, including commercial and recreational fishing industries, environmental organizations, and academia.
