Ecuador Protests Update: President Cuts Gasoline Prices By 10 Cents Per Gallon
As strikes continue across Ecuador, President Guillermo Lasso has ultimately announced a cut in gasoline prices. Lasso acknowledged on national television Sunday that the price of fuel “has become the cornerstone that maintains the conflict.” While the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) have been calling for a reduction of gasoline from $2.55 to $2.10 a gallon and $1.90 to $1.50 for diesel, Lasso has reduced the price of gasoline by 10 cents per gallon.
