Japan’s 2021 Scallop Exports Record 95,000 Tons, 90% for China
Last year's exports of frozen scallops (shell-on and shell-off combined) increased 51% year-on-year to 95,372 tons, the highest since 1988 when the World Customs Organization incorporated the current HS code system. In addition to the excellent quality of domestic scallops, the background is the scallop production reduction in the United States and the recovery of consumption from the new coronavirus disease overseas, especially in China, reported Suisan Keizai.
