JAPAN: 2021 Seafood Imports Up Slightly to 1.93 Million Tons, Value 10% Up to 1.5 Trillion Yen
According to the preliminary trade statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, the import volume of fish and shellfish in 2021 increased by 1.5% from the previous year to 1,93,440 tons. Although it exceeded last year's results, it was the second year short of the 2 million tons level before the coronavirus pandemic, Minato Shimbun reported.
The import value increased by 10.3% to 1,509 billion yen ($13.25 billion), and the average price increased by 8.6% to 782 yen/kg ($6.87/kg)...
