Northwest Aquaculture Alliance Responds to Supreme Court Opinion on Cooke Aquaculture Pacific Permit
The Northwest Aquaculture Alliance (NWAA) is celebrating the Washington Supreme Court’s opinion to uphold Cooke Aquaculture Pacific’s permit to change species from Atlantic salmon to steelhead in Puget Sound.
Cooke Aquaculture’s decision to farm steelhead, which is a native species, was in response to Washington state legislature that phased out Atlantic salmon farming following a 2017 escapement of 263,000 Atlantic salmon at Cooke’s pens at Cyprus Island.
