Blumar Estimates $3.3 Million Loss After Algae Bloom in Aysen Region
A harmful algae bloom in Chile’s Aysén region is once again causing problems for salmon farms.
Salmones Blumar S.A. revealed this week that the harmful algae bloom is impacting three of their centers: Orestes, Isla Ester and Punta Rouse. Those centers had a combined total of approximately 2.55 million salmon prior to the algae event, and the company estimates a mortality of 760,000 fish, equivalent to 1,230 tons.
