California Lists Leatherback Turtles, Opening Door for New Management, Funding
The California Fish and Game Commission met last week and listed the West Pacific leatherback sea turtle as endangered, thanks to a petition from the Center for Biological Diversity and Turtle Island Restoration Network.
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife conducted a review and found the leatherback is "currently in serious danger of becoming extinct throughout all of its range," and that "many threats are only significant and present outside of California (and the United States).
