ISSF Report: 16 Tuna Stocks Fail to Meet MSC Sustainability Standard
A new report released yesterday by the International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) found 16 of the world’s 23 tuna stocks do not meet criteria to received the Marine Stewardship Council’s sustainability certification.
The independent scientists who wrote the report — ISSF 2021-01: An Evaluation of the Sustainability of Global Tuna Stocks Relative to Marine Stewardship Council Criteria — found only seven tuna stocks worldwide are meeting the MSC standard that requires maintaining stock biomass levels sustainably.
