NOAA Announces Gulf of Mexico Commercial Hook-and-Line Harvest of King Mackerel Closure
Commercial hook-and-line harvest of king mackerel in federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico Southern Zone will close on February 22, 2021.
Harvest will reopen on July 1, 2021, NOAA Fisheries announced in a Feb. 16 bulletin.
NOAA said the closure is being implemented because quota for the Gulf Southern Zone is 575,400 pounds and updated landings data indicate that the commercial hook-and-line harvest of king mackerel in this zone is rapidly approaching the quota.
