Coast Guard Nabs Cod Boat With Eight Halibut Aboard
ANCHORAGE – In what was likely a routine boarding, the U.S. Coast Guard found eight halibut aboard a commercial fishing vessel targeting Pacific cod just off Kodiak Island last week. USCG issued a violation Thursday, for retaining halibut during a closed season.
While the 2021 season was extended several weeks on either end, it was not made year-round. The idea was discussed at the late January annual meeting of the International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC), but was not adopted. The season opens March 6 this year and will close December 7 ...
