Cooke Aquaculture Approved to Raise Native Steelhead in Puget Sound
Yesterday the Washington Department of Ecology revised four water quality permits to allow Cooke Aquaculture to raise sterile, all-female steelhead in marine net pens. The permits were originally for non-native Atlantic salmon, which the state Legislature outlawed in 2018 in a phase-out plan that is effective next year, following a net pen collapse in 2017.
