Nation’s Only Heavy Icebreaker Makes Logistic Stop in Dutch Harbor
Yesterday the 400-foot U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star returned from the Chukchi Sea, to the port of Dutch Harbor for the first time in nearly eight years.
The 44-year old heavy icebreaker is thirty days into to a months-long deployment to protect the nation’s maritime sovereignty and security throughout the U.S. Arctic. The vessel has been patrolling the Bering and Chukchi Seas and along the Maritime Boundary Line marking the U.S.-Russian border.
