Today's Top Story: Dr. Ray Hilborn Speaks Out Against Ocean-Based Climate Solutions Act Provision
On October 20 a provision in the “Ocean-Based Climate Solutions Act” was introduced in the House by Representative Raul Grijalva (D-AZ). The provision in the text, under Title II, would direct the Executive Branch to establish Marine Protected Areas that prohibit all commercial fishing activities across at least 30 percent of the nation’s Exclusive Economic Zone by 2030 (also known as the “30 by 30” plan). On Tuesday a broad coalition of more than 800 members of the seafood industry sent Rep. Grijalva a letter expressing their concerns on Title II — something that they said would “undermine our nation’s world-class system of fisheries management, harming fishermen and coastal communities they sustain.” Now, another voice is speaking out — respected fisheries scientist Dr. Ray Hilborn...
