NMFS Finalizes New Areas, Regulations to Protect Coral Habitats in Gulf of Mexico
Changes that protect corals and limit fishing are coming to some coral areas in the Gulf of Mexico.
The National Marine Fisheries Service recently published the final rule implementing Amendment 9 to the Fishery Management Plan for Coral and Coral Reef Resources in Gulf of Mexico. The final rule will be effective Nov. 16.
The rule establishes 13 new habitat areas of particular concern with fishing regulations, designates eight new areas without fishing regulations and modifies the regulations in three existing areas, according to NMFS. These ...
