Hokkaido Okhotsk Frozen Scallop Sales Slowdown in Mass Retailers, Market Price Downward Pressure
As of September 15, scallop fishing from Okhotsk, Hokkaido, has harvested less than 80% of the season's projection from April 2020 to March 2021. Shipments of the main product, frozen scallop, are expected to increase in the future, but the domestic and overseas markets have shrunk due to the new coronavirus. Mass retailers, which have been the driving force for selling in the first half of the season, have begun to slow down due to the rise in market prices, reports Minato Shimbun.
