Ainu Ethnic Group Sues Japanese Government For Confirmation of Salmon Capture Right
As the capture of salmon is part of the indigenous right of the native residents, the Ainu ethnic group in Uraboro-Cho, Hokkaido, filed a lawsuit on August 17 against the Japanese government and the Hokkaido Governor seeking confirmation of the right to capture salmon at the mouth of the Uraboro Tokachi River. The lawsuit was filed in the Sapporo District Court.
