JAPAN: Frozen Black Cod Price Keeps Falling

Frozen black cod imports have been in the 5,000-ton range since 2015. The unit import price has been declining since peaking in 2017 when a buying spur from the consuming countries pushed it to a limit. According to Minato Shimbun, the price has begun falling to an acceptable level since imports are increasing.

In 2012, imports were over 8,000 tons, and the average unit price per kilo was 1024 yen. Later, demand increased mainly in large-sized fish bodies in the United States, China, Singapore, etc., and prices continued to rise until...
