Consumer Advocacy Organization Sues Mowi Over Alleged Deceptive Advertising
The Organic Consumer Association (OCA), a nonprofit consumer protection organization is suing Mowi, the biggest salmon farmer in the world, over alleged deceptive marketing.
The lawsuit alleges that Mowi’s sustainability claims on its packaging is false and misleading. The OCA said its smoked Atlantic salmon products sold under the Ducktrap River of Maine brand “were made from salmon industrially farmed using unsustainable and environmentall destructive practices.”
“The OCA seeks no monetary damages, only an end to the deceptive marketing and advertising at issue,” the lawsuit filed by Richman Law Group, in D.C. Superior Court under the D.C. Consumer Protection Procedures Act.
