NOAA Releases Ten-Year Plan to Address Ocean Acidification
Last Wednesday NOAA unveiled its new ten-year research plan to help scientists, resource managers, and coastal communities address acidification of the open ocean, coastlines, and Great Lakes.
Acidification is driven by increasing amounts of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) being absorbed by the ocean and inland lakes around the world. It has caused global-scale changes in ocean and freshwater chemistry that impact marine and freshwater wildlife and results in social and economic effects.
