Japanese Supermarket Sales Improve for the Second Consecutive Month
According to the chain store sales statistics compiled by the Japan Chain Stores Association, whose member companies are general supermarkets (GMS), June's total sales amount was 1,860 billion yen ($17.7 billion). Sales of the existing stores increased by 3.4% year-on-year for the second consecutive month. In addition to healthy food products sales, household goods also recovered by 9.1%. Clothes, down 4.1%, narrowed the negative range. The trend suggests a resumption of economic activities following the cancellation of the emergency declaration, explained Suisan Keizai.
