JAPAN: Seven Men Arrested For Allegedly Trying to Bring Juvenile Eels Out of the Country
On July 29 the Osaka Police Department (OPD) arrested seven men, including Toshiaki Tsubota (59) unemployed in Izumiotsu City, Osaka Prefecture, and Jo Insung, a Korean citizen living in Chiba Prefecture (54) for allegedly attempting to illegally bring the juvenile "glass eel," of the endangered Japanese eel species, outside Japan. They violated the tariff law and were arrested on suspicion of unauthorized export attempt.
