Japan: May Tuna Imports Down 55% for Fresh, and 27% for Frozen
According to the Ministry of Finance's customs clearance statistics, imports of tuna in May were 529 tons of fresh and chilled, down 48% year-on-year, and 685 million yen ($6.4 million), down 55%. Frozen tuna totaled 11,445 tons, 20% decrease, 12,310 million yen ($114.5 million), 27% decrease. The amount of processed tuna was 3,622 tons, an 8% decrease, or 2.18 billion yen ($20.3 million), an 11% decrease.
