JAPAN: May Seafood Imports the Most Profound Decline Since COVID-19 Pandemic
According to a May preliminary trade report released by the Ministry of Finance on May 17, imports of seafood (excluding nonedible marine products) suffered from the most significant decline since the spread of the new coronavirus. Besides seafood, meat has also had a significant decrease from the previous month.
In May, the imports of fish and shellfish were 252,926 tons and 102.4 billion yen ($955 million). The quantity decreased by 17.2% compared to the same month of the previous year, and the value decreased by 25.0%...
