Trump Orders Ag Secretary to “Consider” Payments to Lobster Industry for Trade War Losses
After meeting with representatives of Maine’s lobster industry earlier this month, President Trump issued an executive memorandum to two Cabinet Secretaries — Sonny Purdue of Agriculture and Wilbur Ross of Commerce — and U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Robert Lighthizer calling for payments to lobster fishermen and processors to offset losses created by the administration’s trade war with China.
The order, sent on Wednesday, June 24, reads in part:
