Greater Atlantic Region Observer Coverage to Resume on July 1
Vessels with Greater Atlantic Region fishing permits will have to once again carry human observers or at-sea monitors beginning on July 1.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic and social distancing requirements, NOAA first waived requirements for vessels to carry observers at the end of March. The decision came after fishermen expressed concerns about their health at the beginning of the pandemic. The waiver was extended multiple times, but according to the government agency, those waivers will expire on June 30.
