DFO Issues Update Regarding At-Sea Observer Requirements
In early April Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) announced that all at-sea observer coverage would be temporarily waived due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, over a month later, the DFO announced that they are imposing the new requirements for at-sea observers on fishing vessels.
According to the DFO, all fishing activities authorized under the Fisheries Act must be carried out without any at sea observer being onboard fishing vessels, except where the following conditions are met:
