U.S. State Department Suspends Wild-Caught Shrimp Imports from China, Venezuela
In a notice published on the Federal Register on April 30, the U.S. Department of State suspended certifications for wild-caught shrimp from China and Venezuela, making it illegal to be sold in the U.S.
The suspension was pursuant to Section 609 of Public Law 101-162, which states that countries harvesting wild shrimp must adopt a regulatory program governing incidental take of sea turtles that is comparable to the policy stateside.
