Alaska Fishing Updates for March 2020

March marks the start of halibut and herring fisheries but there’s not a lot of good news this go around.
The eight month long Pacific halibut fishery is set to open on March 14 amidst a grim market outlook due in part to the coronavirus. Most of Alaska’s 17 million pound halibut catch goes to markets in the U.S. but transportation by flight is getting more sketchy and many stores and restaurants are devoid of customers.
In Southeast Alaska, no ferries means no halibut shipments...
