Port Moves Forward with Rebuilding the Charleston, Ore., Ice Plant
Getting ice ice in Charleston, Ore., is a little flaky right now. The Port of Coos Bay's ice plant succumbed to a fire in December 2019 and processors in the marina have only a limited supply.
The Port announced recently it is aggressively pursuing solutions to provide commercial grade flake ice to the fishing fleet. Following a declaration of emergency, staff have been working as quickly as possible to minimize any impacts to local fishermen, the port said in a press release.
But the search hasn't been easy.
