The Release of Japanese Glass Eel to Farmers Reached 3.5 Tons
The release of the wild Japanese glass eel (A. japonica) to farmers reached 3.5 tons as of the end of December, according to the Fishery Agency of Japan (FAJ). Compared with a year ago it is a 50% increase, a dramatic recovery from the past two years. Industry sources estimate that approximately 8 tons were released in January by the first half of the glass eel harvest season.
