Governor Cuomo Requests Federal Fishery Disaster for New York Bay Scallop Fishery
On Friday New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo issued a letter to U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to request that the bay scallop fishery off the coast of Long Island be declared a failure.
The state's bay scallop resource, which is primarily located in the waters of Peconic and Gardiners bays in eastern Suffolk County, experienced a "catastrophic" die-off of adult bay scallops over the summer.
