FAO: Global Fisheries at a Crossroads, Time for a New Vision
Director General of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization Qu Dongyu opened the International Symposium on Fisheries Sustainability with a strong message: “Fisheries are facing an important crossroad and the world needs a new vision in the 21st century.”
The Symposium kicked off on Monday and Dongyu explained that by 2050, the human population will be nearing the 10 billion mark, and land alone will not be able to feed everyone. The world will need to rely on seafood more than ever.
