Invasive Fresh Water Plant Eradication Important to Protect Salmon Watersheds, ISER Study Says
Earlier this week, Alaska’s NBC affiliate and online news source KTUU posted an article about the potential damage to Alaska’s billion-dollar salmon industry from an invasive aquarium plant called elodea.
The report came from a June 2019 economic analysis written by three economists from the University of Alaska in Anchorage and Fairbanks.
Elodea is a common aquarium plant that was illegally dumped into Alaskan waters in Eyak Lake near Cordova in 1982. It has adapted to cold weather and has since been found in salmon watersheds...
