New Global Catch Database Shows Alarming Tuna Fishing Trends
In a study published in Fisheries Research, scientists from the Sea Around Us found a significant increase in global tuna catches, increasing by over 1,000 percent over the past six decades. The group found that the massive expansion of the catchers is not sustainable fishing habits for tuna.
In the last few years, six million tonnes of tuna have been caught. Findings from the research showed that tuna fisheries around the globe are operation well overcapacity.
