Ninth North Atlantic Right Whale Found Dead, This Time in U.S. Waters
A North Atlantic right whale was found dead Monday in the waters off Long Island, making it the ninth of the critically endangered species to be found dead this year, officials at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said.
It was unclear how the whale died or the gender.
There are no more than 420 of the species left, and an estimated 90 breeding females.
