Coast Guard Patrols North Pacific to Protect International Fisheries
The Coast Guard Cutter Mellon patrolled the North Pacific in support of Operation North Pacific Guard (NPG), a mission dedicated to “protecting marine resources, enforcing international fisheries agreements and conducting global security missions.”
Since the start of the operation in June, the Mellon’s crew boarded 40 ships and issued a total of 61 violations. 25 of the violations were considered “serious” by the Coast Guard, as they had the potential to negatively impact fisheries.
