Pink and Sockeye Salmon Landings Make Up Most of Alaska Catches To Date
Through August 12, more than 130.6 million salmon have been harvested in Alaska this season. By numbers, sockeye and pink salmon account for 90 percent of the total -- pinks holding about 49 percent with sockeyes at about 41 percent -- with other species contributing the remainder. While the statewide 2019 sockeye harvest is on track to be the fourth largest on record, other species are lagging, reports Garrett Evridge, an economist for the McDowell Group.
